I signed up online for this website, The International Teacher. Various American/International schools from around the world post their open positions. It’s pretty exciting (and a bit scary at the same time).
Basically, if you play your cards right, you can end up with a sweet gig: tax free salary, housing paid for, travel to and from the country, signing bonuses, and some places will give stipends for masters degrees! I mean, would I be stupid if I didn’t follow through on this?
Cons: It’s a commitment in another country. I would be the big 3-0 by the time I came home (or close to it, anyway…). I’m not too worried about the age–I just feel like it would be strange to start new at that age. You know? I wouldn’t teach overseas forever, so coming home and starting over is inevitable.
I guess I am just leaving it up to the powers that be: Do I go to grad school and teach in Virginia? Do I teach overseas and experience life in a foreign country?
