I had a list of errands to run today–so I started out bright and earlyish…
After I took off the trash, went to Walmart, visited the Post Office, and deposited checks at the bank, I made my way to one of my favorite stores…McKay’s. McKay’s is one Knoxville feature that has a resounding reputation. It’s an amazing used book store that allows you to return books, CDs, and movies for store credit. They sell their goods 1/2 price.
I came out with an armful of books about vampires, children’s books, and my favorite…a new graph paper hardback journal. I quickly made my way to my next (new) favorite place–A PHO PLACE! That’s right, ladies and gentlemen! Knoxville has Pho! Real Pho! AND Cafe su da! It’s delicious iced coffee with sweetened condensed milk.
I ate my pho (yum!), and decided to chase down the other Vietnamese treat I’ve been wanting: bubble tea! On my way to the Asian Market, I stopped in at the Nail Salon for a wax. I was all in a hurry, and the nail tech got up and left the lady she was with to wax my brows. After leaving in an equal hurry to escape the icy stares of a West Knoxville Mom-Diva, I realized I locked my keys in the car. Slinking away in shame, I called AAA, only to find out my membership expired. Sigh. $98 later, I was golden as the third Asian life savior of the day broke into my car.
I sped up to White Pine, recanted my adventures, endured pleas to stay in TN, and spent a couple hours painting snowmen. Whew! Turns out when you’re busy, heartbreak and homesickness are just a faint sting. Now, if I could just figure out to accomplish this much EVERY day… My other method (Practicing math to tire my brain out) leaves me feeling slightly less jubilant!
